Bunny Hat

Make a sweet little bunny hat for your doll!  The size of this pattern works out for dolls with heads between 11 and 13 inches circumference but you can change it very easily with different yarn and hooks.  It only has to be a little bigger and then you can find a baby to wear it ;)

What do I need to have?
  • 1 ball/skein of a worsted weight yarn and a little bit for the pink
  • crochet hook size H
  • tapestry needle to sew in ends

What do I need to know?

Magic Circle = a technique for beginning a crochet project that is done in the round.  Here is a TUTORIAL
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
INC = 2 sc in one stitch
St(s) = stitch(es)
Slst = slip stitch
Ch = chain
Nx = next

HAT:

R1  Magic circle with 6sc into the magic circle.
R2  INC around (12)
R3  INC around (18)
R4  INC around (24)
R5  INC around (30)
R6  INC around (36)
R7  INC around (42)  Check to see if the width is good for your intended model/wearer.

Then sc around for 8 rounds or to desired hat length.  On the final round, sc into back loops and finish off at the end of the round.

EARS:

Back of the ear:

R1  Using white ch 16
R2  sc in 2nd ch, sc 2, hdc 2, dc 10, slst to first ch, ch1

R3  sc across initial ch sts, 3sc in last ch
R4  sc 15 across the sc/hdc/dc from R2, slst to nx st and finish off.  Sew in ends.

Front of the ear:

R1  Using pink ch 16
R2  sc in 2nd ch, sc 2, hdc 2, dc 10
finish off

R3  Join white to first pink ch stitch with a sl st and sc in same st.  Sc across pink to last ch.  3sc in last ch.

R4  sc across sts on the other side back to the start of the white, turn work 90 degrees and sc four times into the side of the last dc, join with sl st to first white st, ch 1.  Do NOT finish off yet.

Sew in white tail and both pink tails

Put white piece and pink/white piece together wrong sides facing.
Finding the approximate matching stitch on the white piece, crochet thru the back loops of both pieces all the way around, joining the 2.

When you reach the start of the round, join to the first st with a sl st and finish off.

Leave a tail to sew on to the hat with the base of the ears squeezed together.

That's it!
